Murray to the Mountains

Our Program:

15 positions

The Murray to the Mountains Intern Program (M2M) provides medical graduates with a unique hands-on training experience in both rural and regional hospitals, general practice and community settings  based in some of Victoria’s most beautiful locations providing trainees with an opportunity to live and work where many people choose to holiday.

Hospital intern rotations are completed at either Albury Wodonga Health or Northeast Health Wangaratta across General Medicine, General Surgery, Orthopaedics and Emergency Medicine rotations to provide exposure to the four clinical experience categories

  • A - Undifferentiated illness care
  • B - Chronic illness care
  • C- Acute and critical illness care
  • D - Peri-operative/procedural care

The 20-week extended community-based General Practice rotations will be completed at one of nine participating GP clinics based in some of Victoria’s most beautiful locations:

  • 5 interns will be placed in Yarrawonga
  • 4 interns will be placed in Benalla
  • 2 interns will be placed in Cobram
  • 2 interns will be placed in Kyabram
  • 1 intern will be placed in Mt Beauty/Falls Creek
  • 1 intern will be placed in Mansfield

The Program includes seven skills workshops and eight medical education meetings, which are mandatory components and feature renowned presenters on a variety of relevant topics. Interns will also present at one Clinical Grand Round and one Clinical Review Meeting in the General Practice/Rural Health Service rotation.

The M2M Program provides the opportunity for career progression from undergraduate to GP Rural Generalist or Specialist registrar and is a strong foundation for a rural medical career.

M2M was developed in partnership between Alpine Health, Cobram District Health, Numurkah District Health Service Benalla Health, Mansfield District Hospital and Yarrawonga Health back in 2012 and now has over 110 Alumni.

How to Apply:

Applications for 2025 internships with the Murray to the Mountains (M2M) Intern program are made directly through the Postgraduate Medical Council of Victoria (PMCV) Intern Match

All 15 M2M Intern positions will be offered through the Victorian Rural Preferential Allocation (VRPA) round and candidates will be able to preference their preferred location to complete their hospital rotations (you can preference both health service streams):

Victorian Rural Generalist Program:

The Murray to the Mountains Intern program is considered Rural Generalist Training Year 1 (RG1) of the Victorian Rural Generalist Program (VRGP) for the Hume Region.

The VRGP is a state-wide end-to-end Rural Generalist training program that allows the future Rural Generalist workforce to train, work and live in rural and regional Victoria.  In addition to providing a diverse and rewarding training experience, the long-term objective of the VRGP is to increase the employment of Rural Generalists in rural health services and communities across Victoria.

The RG1 program provides a great introduction to a Rural Generalist career by providing training in both health service and community settings and working alongside Rural Generalists in small, rural and community health services.

There is no requirement to be in a GP training program to apply for RG1 positions, but you will need to be on a GP training program before taking up a Rural Generalist Advanced Training position.

Styles

Once this website is completed the styles below will be custom tuned to match your website prior to this you will notice all the heading styles below are blue. These changes will also be viewable in your WYSIWYG editor. This way you will be updating your content with the best setup possible.

There should be no need at all for font size, font colour or typeface features. Just like in a word document, when you correctly setup your styles the entire document can be changed to match your theme.

Note: The text below is not any real language. It is made up text so you do not feel the need to read it.

This page is designed to greatly enhance your Joomla Content Editing abilities. This site does not use the standard Joomla WYSIWYG Editor. WYSIWYG stands for "What You See Is What You Get".

How do I get the most out of my page layout?

The simplest (and safest) way to edit your pages is to use the FORMAT dropdown. If you change between Paragraphs and headings, you will find it very easy to maintain the contet long term. See the examples below for headings.

You will notice there is also a "Preformatted" and "Div" option in there but they can be hard to use this so I suggest you avoid using them. I woudl have taken them out of the dropdown list but us developers still like to use them on occasion.

You can see from this example below what the code looks like when you apply a heading 3 to a line of text.

<h3>Heading 6</h3>
<p>This is a paragraph of text.</p>

You will notice that there is no need to set fonts and colours. We have done that in the website a special way so that every time a H3 heading comes up it will look the same.

Incorrect use of styles could mean the code looks as bad as this.

<p style="text-align:left; font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-weight:bold;">
<span style="font-style: italic; font-size: 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 22px;
text-decoration:none;font-style: normal;color:#00639C;">
<b>Heading 3</b></span>
</span>
</span></p>
<p>This is a paragraph of text.</p>

What a mess! Something like this makes it very hard for the editor to understand exactly what part of the text styles you are trying to change.

Once you start applying custom styles from the STYLES dropdown, you need to be careful you know how to change or remove them correctly. This editor is one of the most advanced HTML WYSIWYG Editors around but is still an editor of HTML (website code). This means that it is still easy to make a bit of a mess sometimes. This was one of the main reasons why we have gone to such lengths to ensure you keep your content clean. A common isse is when you wrap one style inside another.

If you know a little bit about HTML code then you might like to use the [Toggle Editor] button just above the editor windows icons. This will show you all the editable HTML code instead.
